On 8th Januay 2009 Clodagh and Edd from Ireland joined Amazing Bike Tours for their 2nd Bike trip. A couple days before they joined our day trip to Koh Yao Noi, seeing that they were very fit and experienced bikers we asked if they would like an extra day of Biking, which we call the “Phuket Mountain Challenge”.
To join this Mountain Bike day trip the Bikers must have a endurance for hills, 85% of the ride being on hills, both ascending and descending…..but alot of steep ascents!

Clodagh a Triathlete from Ireland leads the way.
We started our ride on the hills just south of Patong, we rode down in to Patong, took a back road and soon were climbing up a steep road in to the Mountains. After 5km we reached the start of the off road trail that would lead us through the hills and forests to Chalong area.

Steep ascent.
After 6 Km riding through the hills, we joined the road in Chalong area, a couple KM along the main road brought us to the ascess road that leads to the Big Buddha. A huge Buddhist monument covered in marble that is very close to completion. The road leading to Big Buddha is a 6km up hill ride….not for the faint hearted!

Great views of the Buddha, Phukets coast line and surrounding Islands are well earned after 6km up hill ride.

Ring the Bell after making it to the top.

Donate 300 Baht to buy a piece of marble, just enough Marble to cover the lotus leaves at the base of the Buddha is needed to complete Phukets Buddhist monument.
Think you can handle Amazing Bike Tours “Phuket Mountain Challenge”, first join one of our regular day trips to Koh Yao Noi or one of our over night tours, if our guide thinks you have the required fittness and Mountain Bike skills and ability they will ask you if you would like to join this day of tough Mountain Biking in Phuket…..not for the faint hearted.
Clodagh and Edd we hope to Bike with you again in the future….”it was a great craic”…as the Irish say.
