Thailand Bike Tour from Phuket to Koh Yao Noi on Tuesday 25th August 2009.

On Tuesday 25th August 2009 Amazing Bike Tours took a group of Cyclists from Phuket by boat to the Island of Koh Yao Noi. Joining us today were Jochen from Germany, Maureen from the Netherlands and Erin and Jamie from Australia.

Mountain Bike Tour to “Little Long Island” on Sunday 23rd August 2009.

On Sunday 24th August Amazing Bike Tours departed Phuket and headed to Koh Yao Noi for a 1 day Thailand Bike Tour. Joining us for the days Biking were Mik and Kerry, both from the UK but long time residents in Phuket. Also from the UK were Mark and Emily, and Dot and Natalie both from Australia.

 

Over the last few months during the Phuket “low season” and monsoon season we have posted many photos of our bike tours with brillant blue skys and fantastic weather. Well Sunday the 23rd was not going to be one of those days, we had rain throughouyt most of the day, but depsite the rain every one still commented how beautiful an Island Koh Yao Noi and we all had a good days Biking….despite being slightly wet!

 

Due to the rain we didnt get many shots of this Thailand Bike Tour…..the camera not being too keen on the rain either.

On Sunday 16th August 2009 Amazing Bike Tours departede Phuket with Louise and Nanna from Denmark and Grant and Linda from Australia, off to the beautiful Island of Koh Yao Noi, the destination of our bike tour.

On Friday 14th August Amazing Bike Tours were joined by Linda from USA, Brian from New Zealand, Jenny and Annette from Australia and Arsene from Belgium for our 1 day Thailand Bike Tour from Phuket to Koh Yao Noi.

Shortly in to our bike ride a local man waved us in to his house in Koh Yao Noi. His names was Khun Sahat and he used to make a living collecting Swallow nests. Swallow nests are highly valued for making soup with by the Chinese. The swallows make their nests inside caves and on cliff faces, the locals make some very precarious bamboo scafalding to reach the top of the huges caves and cliff faces to obtain the Swallow nests. Back in 1990 two photographers came to the local area to do a photo documentary of the local men and their climbing feats to reach the nests. This photo essay appeared both in National Geographic magazine and also in a coffee table photo book, part of a series of books by these photographers about old lifestyles in remote locations that are becoming obsolete.

Khun Sahat proudly showed us these pictures of himself in National Geographic and the book, a totally unexpected experience for both the guide our our guests on this Bike ride.
