While most of our bike tours are aimed at guests that want to cycle at a gentle pace and enjoy the scenery of southern Thailand by bicycle, we can also cater to experienced mountain bikers looking for a challenging ride in Thailand.

Alex from Germany, the first of many ascents during the Phuket Mountain Challenge.
Alex from Germany contacted us before his visit and told us he wanted a tough ride, so we explained about our aptly named “Phuket Mountain Challenge” On this ride we start in Patong on the back road and make a 3km ascent up a steep road. After 3km we say goodbye to the Amazing Bike Tours mini bus and hit the trails. The plan is to bike from Patong to Chalong completly off road. The trail that we follow is like a roller coaster, up and down, up and down. A good level of fittness is required for this ride.

Alex and Loh-mountain bike tours in Phuket.

Off the beaten track in Phuket.

Mountain Biking in Phuket.
We then begin a steep and rocky descent to Chalong area with big grins on our faces after that last trail. Once in the Chalong area we are back on the road for a few km before joining the road that leads to The Big Buddha monument. A nice 6km ascent to reach Phuket’s almost complete Buddhist monument. After more drinks and snacks we descend a few km and then leave the road behind for some more dirt trail mountain biking. Again another roller coaster ride of ups and downs. Some sections totally over grown so it was more a case of fighting our way through the jungle….most definitely off the beaten track.

During the ride up to the Big Buddha we pass some Thai elephants.

The top of the hill is in sight.

After a 6km ascent we reach Phuket's Big Buddha monument.

Phuket Island Mountain Biking.

Some of trails are used by so few people they have become over grown, fighting our way through the dense jungle.

Phuket Mountain Challenge.

The roller coaster ride is not over yet, another climb before the final descent.

Off road mountain biking in Phuket Island.
A final section of trail, very steep with lots of rutts, drops and rocks to keep even the most experienced mountain bikers on their toes brings us back down to sea level after 24km of biking.
A tough ride for sure…..we look forward to mountain biking with Alex on his next visit to Thailand.
